MY STYLE- Pink Flare

Ever so often, I let the empress in me come to light. In no way do I follow or practice Rastafarism but I do love to wrap my locs and dress empress-like at times.

I love a flowy maxi skirt and although the summer is meant to be officially over, it never really ends in the Caribbean so the light, airy flow of maxi skirts keep me cool.

Have a great weekend!

MY STYLE: Tribal Ikat

On my last day in Chicago, my sister and I decided to stroll through the city and window shop. Of course, window shopping is usually unsuccessful when done with another fashionista and that, my sister definitely is. After growing weary of seeing almost the same thing in every store, my eyes caught the colors and print of these pants. Needless to say, they joined the other items that I purchased while 'window' shopping in Chicago.

WINNER! WINNER!- 2013 Style Bloggers of Color Conference

WOOT! WOOT!!

Today I come to you with exciting news. I am over the moon with excitement. Funnily enough, excitement is one of the emotions that I feel the least (not sure why).....but anyway, last night, I received a tweet saying that I won a ticket to the 2013 Style Bloggers of Color Conference in Miami next month (October). As you know (or may not know), I live in the Caribbean but thankfully, Florida (specifically Miami) is just an hour's flight away :)

I just happened to stumble across the competition on Instagram posted by BlogColorfully where you basically Instagram yourself in the 'requested color' and state in the caption why you want to attend the Style Bloggers of Color Conference. I entered for the 'Purple' and 'Blue' looks.

You can find a lot more information on the conference and purchase tickets here. Thankfully, I don't have to purchase a ticket :)

This 2-day event is going to be jam packed with informational sessions, fashion shows, networking, food, drinks, pics, fierce fashion etc. I am soooo excited. I am still fairly new to fashion blogging and definitely looking forward to networking with other fiercely, fashionable, fashion bloggers at this event. This is a great opportunity to truly enjoy what I love doing -on a completely different level.

Oh, and before I forget, here is the collage that won me that ticket and to think that I didn't think that purple looked good on me.....well here you have it!

INSPIRED STYLE: Between the Lines

A few weeks ago, I popped into one of my local boutiques for a wee bit of visual retail therapy but nothing in there was therapeutic. The ladies in the boutique have gotten used to my presence so one of them was kind enough to take me in the store room to give me a little preview of what the store would put out next. Well I did a little hop when I saw this skirt. Although it was not priced, I asked her to keep the skirt is size small and call me when it was priced. After a few days of (im)patiently waiting for the phone call, I went to the store on the hunt for my skirt which still was not priced. Hmmph! At this point, I decided that I was not leaving the store until the skirt was priced, checked out and in my possession.

A few days later, one of my favourite bloggers, Helena (Brooklyn Blonde) did this style post wearing a striped skirt quite similar to the one that I purchased and that became the inspiration for this post.

You will also know from this post that I rarely wear anything above my knee but this skirt will be on repeat!

MY STYLE: Red Skinnies

Is there any single item of clothing that a denim shirt does not compliment? I have literally become obsessed with chambray/ denim shirts overnight. I own three blue denim shirts in two different fits but will definitely acquire another two or so. Although I usually go for the darker washes, today, I was excited to wear a lighter wash for the first time and I quite like it.

Luv & Learn Your Hair- Chicago 2013

Hi beauties:

If you read my previous post then you would know that I was recently in Chicago for a quick and much needed get away. It just so happened that my arrival date was the same date of the Chicago leg of Taren Guy's Luv and Learn Your Hair (LLYH) National Tour. Yay me!

About the event: Taren Guy brings forth a fabulous and unforgettable natural hair event and will be going on a 12 city national tour!

Taren will be speaking on the deeper meanings and issues of natural hair and what it means to her. This segment of the event will be on the more inspirational side with the intent to uplift others to LOVE THEIR HAIR.

Throughout the tour, a variety of hair experts will be helping others LEARN THEIR HAIR by giving very valuable tips on how to be free, playful and versatile without compromising it’s health.[See more about the tour here]

I previously met Taren in NY in October 2011 at the Curly Nikki meet and greet. The lovely and talented Franchesca of ChescaLocs was sweet enough to invite me to this event and from then, I was hooked on the whole natural hair 'movement'. Although I have been natural almost all my life, I never realized that natural hair celebrities existed (as in the case of Curly Nikki, Taren Guy, Franchesca of HeyFranHey, Franchesca of ChescaLocs etc). The intricacies of being natural never really grabbed my attention until then so THANK YOU CHESCA!

The LLYH Chicago was held at The Palladium Castle on Dearborn St. and sponsored by Motions. The panel of natural hair 'specialists' included the Monroe Sisters- Ms. Vaughn and Meechy Monroe, Jennifer Rose, Na'kesha Smith and of course the host, Taren Guy. I was wowed by all the beautiful textures that were flowing through the Castle. From kinky to coily and curly to wooly, every type of hair texture attended the event.

Whenever I get the chance to attend these events, I will definitely embrace to opportunity to attend, not only to network but to also learn more about my natural hair.

Enjoy a few pictures from the event.

Up, up and away....

Hi beauties:

I know that my blog has been quiet lately but I wanted to drop in to let you know that I made a last minute decision to take a much needed trip to the windy city of Chicago to visit one of my sisters, meet up with friends, eat yummy food, etc., etc., etc. I even attended the first event of Taren Guy's Luv and Learn Your Hair tour (more info to come in another post).

Once I get back home, I will be posting tons of pictures, none of which will include outfit posts or maybe I will sneak one in there but do have beautiful weekend and we will catch up soon.
